Premium Paint Correction Service in Gresham, OR

Restore your paints shine by removing the scratches and swirls

What is “Paint Correction”

Paint correction is the process of polishing and removing defects from your vehicles paint, such as scratches, swirls, bird droppings and other damage. The goal of this process is to level out your vehicles paint to remove noticeable defects and scratches and protect your paint with a ceramic sealant to protect it from future damage. We typically are able to create a 80% or better improvement using our defect removal process, though we prioritize doing so as safely as possible. If a scratch or defect is too deep and would risk damaging your paint to remove, we won’t fully remove the scratch though we can often make it significantly less noticeable. If your interested in more of our exact process see below.

Our Process

1.) Thoroughly clean rims and wheel wells using an iron remover to remove stubborn brake dust and road grime

If you’ve been looking to have your vehicle detailed, odds are you’ve heard the term “Paint Correction” thrown around quite a bit. Detailing jargon aside, a paint correction is the process of removing contamination from your paint by decontaminating, compounding, and polishing out the imperfections with the goal of leveling your paint.

Paint is much like a mirror, light hits it and refracts back at you. Any area where there is a scratch there is essentially a “valley” in your paint where the surface is uneven causing the light to no longer refract evenly back at your eye. This is what causes swirls, scratches and other defects to appear, the surface is no longer even and refracting like a mirror finish.

Thinking of compounding similarly to if you were creating a wooden desk and wanting to smooth out the surface. First, you’d start off with a heavier duty sand paper to remove major imperfections (similar to a compound though compound is much, much less aggressive as your working on paint.) Once the major imperfections are remove, you’d follow up with a lighter grit sand paper to smooth out the surface and create a uniform look on your desk (similar to polish). Compounding works great at removing swirls, and scratches though it can leave the finish looking somewhat “dull” which is where a polish comes in to really bring back the shine.

At Redline, our goal is to fully remove imperfections using the least aggressive method possible. What does this mean? We’ll test a few different compounds and products to see what is effective at removing paint damage while also being the least aggressive on your vehicles paint to protect and preserve as much of your paint as possible. Following the compound process, we’ll use a polish to fully bring out the shine in your vehicles paint. Lastly, a ceramic sealant will be applied which provides 6+ months of protection in the outside elements and rain we receive here in Gresham Oregon.

The Ceramic sealant we use offers several benefits, for starters it creates an artificial liquid layer on top of your paint to help protect it from the outside elements and makes cleaning off road tar, bugs, dirt and other grim substantially easier. It also repels water which helps to significantly reduce water spotting. Lastly, the ceramic bonds to your vehicles paint and really brings out an incredible shine and warm glow when the sun hits it.

All of that said, Ceramic doesn’t make your paint invincible. It can still be damaged from rock chips and if the sealant isn’t cared for with proper washing your vehicle will still develop surface scratches over time. That is why it is vital that proper washing be done to help preserve the finish and protect the coating.
